# Exploring the World of Drifting in Japan
On this episode [Applause] [Applause], we’re ready to hit the track at Scudma Circuit and explore the world of drift cars in Japan. If you’re a regular viewer of the channel, you’ll know that one of my favorite things to showcase are drifting and drift cars. Today, we’re taking a closer look at a lesser-known drift car in Japan – the Nissan Leopard.
## The Nissan Leopard: An Overview
The Nissan Leopard is a two-door hardtop coupe from the late 80s and early 90s, competing with cars like the Toyota Soarer, the Cosmo, and the Honda Legend. While the Soarer was more popular, the Leopard offered Nissan’s VG V6 engine, including the twin-cam 2-liter turbo variant.
## Classic Design and Retro Accessories
This particular Nissan Leopard has been customized in the classic bossesoku style, with flares, wheels, and other modifications. The interior features retro accessories like the sujuka shift knob, poppy air freshener, and a small diameter wood steering wheel. Despite being a coupe, the rear seat is spacious, with a unique “partner comfort seat” feature for personalized comfort.
## Custom Engine Swap and Performance Upgrades
This Nissan Leopard has been fitted with an S14 naturally aspirated SR20 engine, offering improved performance and a direct bolt-on compatibility with parts from other Nissan models. The engine bay features a tubular manifold and plenty of space for modifications, showcasing the car’s potential for customization.
## Suspension and Wheel Setup
The car sports Classic SSR Mark II wheels, with a 275 35 14 setup in the rear and a 245 setup in the front. The rear suspension design limits camber adjustment, leading to a distinctive wear pattern on slammed cars. Despite its limitations, the focus of these cars is more on aesthetics than pure performance.
## Unique Features and Flexing with Number Plates
The Nissan Leopard showcases unique features like a short bumper from the Ultima model, indicating different tax classes based on engine size and car length. Additionally, illuminated number plates and customizations are popular in Japan, allowing drivers to showcase their unique style and preferences.
## Drifting in the Nissan Leopard
While drifting in a Nissan Leopard might not be the most practical choice in 2023, the joy of drifting lies in the connection with the car. If you enjoy unique minior drift cars like the Leopard, be sure to subscribe for more content and show your support for niche car culture.
